My Vision for Life

When I, Julia, began this journey of being a wife and mother I had an idea of what I wanted that to look like, I figured my Mom is ...

Sewing Kit in a Pill Bottle

This one is one I learned at Girls Camp back in the Columbia Missouri Stake years ago and have adapted a bit over the years.

Ingredients:

Pill bottle any shape or size
Two needles
Note card
Thread Different colors
A Few spare buttons
I like to keep a pair of nail clippers or a seam ripper too

  1. Thoroughly wash and dry the empty pill bottle or bottles. Make sure they are dry before you begin to fill them.
  2. Cut small rectangular pieces of the 3-by-5 inch note card. These need to be large enough to wrap thread around and small enough to fit inside the pill bottle.
  3. Wrap thread firmly around the cut piece of note card. Wrap enough thread to mend a small tear. Repeat this step with a few other colors. If you are making it for yourself, use colors that you wear often. For a general sewing kit be sure to include basic colors like black, blue, white and red.
  4. Put the two sewing needles, safety pins, spare buttons and handmade spools of thread inside the pill bottle, and put the lid on.
  5.  If you want to, add a label on the outside. Now you have a personal sewing kit that you can carry or pack anywhere.
Tips:
  • These are very adaptable and easily personalized, so if you have a family or have gone with individual 72hour kits you could do one for each family member.
  • Also, I love that clear thread that is like fishing line but thinner, you can sew anything any color and its less noticeable.
